About BTI
Ballast Tools Inc. (BTI) is a manufacturer of tungsten carbide protected maintenance-of-way products. These products include tamping tools, ballast regulator wear parts as well as wear resistant parts for most other MoW machines.
Through an ISO 9001-2000-complient production process, BTI manufactures wear parts used in all aspects of railroad track maintenance from ballast manipulation/ replacement to tie installation, maintenance and removal.
The best way to attach carbide is by silver solder brazing and BTI specializes in this attachment process. Induction brazing forms strong structural bonds that support the carbide and keep it securely in place in the appropriate wear areas. After carbide is properly installed, it can be expected to outlast steel by as much as
30 to 1. There are no additional build-up treatments or procedures required.
There are additional benefits provided by tungsten carbide wear-proofing. Parts that have required frequent servicing will last 10-15 times longer. This translates into less down-time, spare parts inventory and change-out labor costs as well as greater safety and efficiency. In some applications wear-proofed parts have outperformed their existing counterparts by a factor of 30 to 1.
BTI wear resistant parts are made to fit most maintenance of way (MoW) machines including those manufactured by Plasser, Harsco (HTT), Nordco, Matisa, Tamper, Kershaw, and Knox Kershaw, Jackson.
